TreeWorks is extremely proud to announce that two of our climbers, Christine Rampling and Scott Pollock, qualified for and competed at last weekend’s Australian Tree Climbing Championships held in Melbourne. Competing against the nation’s best Christine placed third in the Australian Women’s Championship and Scott placed 20th in the Men’s Championship.
The championship is made up of various different events with points from each contributing to towards the championship:
Double rope foot locking – ascending rope using legs and arms to 15m – quickest.
Speed climb – ascending rope using climbing systems with the assistance of a ground person to 10m – quickest
Perform Aerial rescue – demonstrating ability to rescue a ‘dummy’ climber who has become unconscious – judged on technique completed in a certain timeframe
Throw line competition – throwing ropes into set point of tree. Points awarded according to diificulty of target
Working Climb – climb whole tree from top to bottom going to multiple “stations” at the end of various limbs. At each Station perform a different task typical of arboricultural activities. Scored by speed and technique and safety.
